Multiple career pathways and a new pay structure are aimed at recruiting and retaining skilled cyber specialists.
The Australian Defence Force has announced a shake-up of the way it recruits and retains vital cyber warfare specialists, with the key aim of building a “fit-for-purpose cyber warfare workforce”.
Cyber warfare personnel can now take advantage of several new career pathway opportunities and a shift to a skills-based pay structure.
According to Chief of Joint Capabilities, Lieutenant General Susan Coyle, AM, CSC, DSM, the cyber domain is a unique environment and requires a depth of skills and experience that it is important to retain and support.
“Cyber warfare specialists and cyber warfare officers are core to the conduct of cyber space operations that detect and defeat cyber space attacks against Defence networks and systems,” LTGEN Coyle said in a 27 May statement.
“The need for Defence to attract and retain its share of an in-demand and growing workforce in Australia requires a new, multifaceted approach to cyber warfare employment.
“The new Cyber Warfare Common Remuneration Framework will enable cyber warfare specialists and cyber warfare officers to be employed within a skills-based pay structure, better addressing retention and the development of deep technical skills required in the cyber domain.
“This will also open up new opportunities for those interested in Reserve roles and mid-career entry, where people who wish to serve their nation can leverage their industry experience.”
